4 time champs for Glec

This past weekend the ONU Esports Valorant team travelled to Columbus, Ohio to compete in Glec. This league is a local league with all the surrounding colleges, very similar to all the teams we play for other sports. In the past, we have dominated this league and won every year that I have been here, and we were able to do it again. This blog is going to dive into the journey we went through this year and how we were able to come out on top.

Starting with the regular season, we were busy with tons of leagues. So, because of this half of our games we had to have the jv team play the matches for us. This was the most optimal option, but it backfired at times as the jv team lost a couple games. This was bad for us because the seeding was super different this year with two different divisions and the top 8 teams made it. So, if the top 8 seeds were from one side, then all 8 could go from that one side, even though this is realistic. So, the team was two games away from playoffs and we were sitting around the 8th seed. We ended up playing the last two games and winning both. We barely made it being tied for 6th seed. We won the tie-breaker game and ended up being that 6th seed. We made it to lan and once we travelled to lan we had to play some of the better teams in the league. Even though we were a lower seed everyone there knew that we were the team to beat. We played our first matchup and we won this with ease. However, the next match we were on the verge of losing and being eliminated.

We went against Tiffin and had one of the hardest games we have ever went through. The game started and we were getting dominated and they were screaming to let us know. We were down 5-1, the game is played to 13, and all you could hear the entire time was the screaming of how they are better than us. We battled hard to get back into the game and ended up bringing it 10-10. Clutch rounds were coming from everyone on the team and we battled our way to a tough victory, 13-11. This was exhausting but we closed it out and was headed into map 2. We dominated a little more but it was still a close gaming, with it ending 10-13.

We were now heading back to finals and this day is cool because you get the private rooms filled with led lights and windows surrounding the entire room, making you feel like you are a professional. The finals have begun and we had plenty of warmup time and practice prepared for this game. We showed up to play and showed off for the crowd. We ended up going up 2 maps and had another tough matchup in map 3. Map 3 we were down 5-0 and had to fight our way back into the game. We did exactly that and closed out the final map to secure the title of Glec again.

Thanks for reading the blog :D

  5. Congrats on the win man! I think it's cool to see recognition for this kind of thing because a lot more work goes into competitive gaming than some people might realize!
