Chapter 8: Marketing with Pinterest
This chapter is all about Pinterest and the different things that the app offers. I personally have not spent much time on this app, however I know people who love this app and love to buy things off the app so I know a little about it. I will be discussing some of the interesting sections that I found throughout this chapter and the main takeaways for the chapter.
The first section that I found interesting was Pinterest's numbers. The most popular age range is between 25-34 years old with 76.2% being women. That is a very high number running the app with it being toward the younger but more grown up adults. The daily average for Pinterest is 14 minutes per day for this target market. These numbers indicate a lot about Pinterest, showcasing how businesses should approach the app. Businesses are marketing to women so you have to make it more friendly toward this audience. Also, users aren't on the app for much time so you have to get your message across very effectively and make it perfect.
The next section that I found interesting was Pinterest's Content Strategy. Pinterest is a place where users mainly go to buy things or get creative ideas. This is perfect as you know your audience is already in the consideration phase and want to buy. This section discusses high-quality visuals and descriptions as both of these are very important for the app. Both of these are how products are being convinced to consumers and showcase what the product has to offer. The visuals help draw the attention of the consumers and the description is what sells the consumer if they want to buy it or not. This app may not be the most popular but it can lead to a ton of sales for companies.
The last section that I found interesting was the section about COVID-19. This section talks about the 100 million plus user increase on the app. This was huge for the app helping it become better for companies to use it. Also, because of the pandemic various things were being searched more such as health, wellness, self-care, home schooling, food and, various things under these topics. The pandemic increased the amount of consumers buying online compared to in-person which helps Pinterest as many users go to this app to buy things.
The main takeaway from this reading is the target audience for Pinterest, how the app works, and the strategy that goes into the app. Pinterest is a great place to sell products, especially toward women so companies can take advantage of this app and help drive sales.
