Chapter 7: Snapchat

    This week's reading is all about Snapchat. Snapchat is an app that is all about short but fun and memorable moments. These moments are more current and catch things while they happen. This blog will talk about some of the top sections that I found interesting and the main takeaways from the reading. 

    The first section that I found interesting was the section about marketing with snapchat. Snaps receive twice the visual attention of Facebook ads, 1.5 times more than Instagram ads, 1.3 times more effective than YouTube. These stats are crazy to think how impactful advertising can be on Snapchat. Snapchat is a great way for companies to reach their audience while not using many resources. Snapchat is very efficient when it comes to using quick pictures and videos while being very approachable. This app is very down to earth and is especially known for their filters. Certain companies can take advantage of advertising on this platform because of the filters. For example a shoes company could allow users to try on their latest pair and help users make that purchase decision based on the filter. Snapchat is a great app when it comes to marketing and advertising. 

    The next section that I found interesting was the section about the content strategy for Snapchat. Snapchat is targeted toward the younger audience with pictures and videos being quick and funny moments. This app is similar to Instagram but a little different when it comes to the content strategy. Instagram is more about highlighting the best moments and showcases the best things happening. Snapchat is more about getting things in the moment and being more authentic and real. Snapchat also allows users to have multiple snaps in a row which allow for more storytelling. The best times to post on Snapchat are typically weekend days plus Friday with the time being later at night. This is most likely due to a ton of events happening on weekends and to reach those trying to catch up on all of the latest things happening. 

    The last section that I found interesting was the section about some snapchat success stories. One of the stories talked about New Balance and their holiday campaign. They ended up teaming up with Snapchat where they did a filter that would ask you questions and based off answers it would give you three presents to choose from which was to promote products and New Balance. This is an amazing way to get people involved and advertise amazing products in a fun way. There are many other examples including American Eagle that can show off their products with filters. 

    This chapter was a fun read that had a ton of good information. Snapchat is a great platform for companies to advertise and especially do it in a fun way. Snapchat is a cheap method that companies can take advantage of if they know the content strategy for the platform.
